filling daddy's shoes

one of jake's new things is to get matt's shoes, ask for help to put his feet in them and then try to walk around.
made me think about how much he's going to want to be just like his dad.  that makes me happy.  matt is a great husband and father and minus a few scuffles when he was young, i'd love for jake to be just like him.  he's got integrity, heart and a generous spirit like no other.

random rant...

jake has been going to gymboree classes now for 10 months.  he's definitely outgrowing them but my mom loves to take him on her days she has him.  it's been a great class for him and he's learned a lot.  when i'm off i take him. i never really felt like i fit in with the other moms but hey jake loves it.  my kid tends to be one of the rowdiest, he's definitely the biggest and sometimes the brownest.  but all that aside, he loves it.
so my mom takes him this week for one of his last classes and he pushes and bites a little girl because she's on a rocking horse that he wants. according to my mom, who is the most politically correct person you'll ever meet, the mother of the little girl made this huge scene.  she grabbed her kid away from jake and ran to the sink to wash her arm and rub sanitizer all over it.  of course my mom is apologizing profusely while scolding jake and even asking the lady to let her see it because she's a nurse.  the mom snatched her arm away and gave my mom a dirty look and then proceeded to make my kid feel like a leper, all huddled up in a click with some other moms, obviously talking about jake.  now i understand that he was wrong, but damn...he's 18 months old.  isn't that kind of what happens when you have a bunch of toddlers running around together?  you ain't gotta make my kid feel like there's something wrong with him.  the mama bear definitely came out when i heard this story and i'm really glad me and the hubby weren't there.  i have the pc gene from my mom but i also got the former black panther gene from my dad.  don't mess with my kid's sense of self or it'll be on up in this mug.  then of course i tell daddy.  and him being all samoan and stuff, well i'll leave that to the imagination.  it would not have been good.  he might a caught a case over his son.  but really, the bottom line is...treat my kid the way you want me to treat yours.  that's all.
mommy loves you jake and i will ride it til the wheels fall off for you son! (you'll have to look that up when you're finally able to read this.)

play date...

my friend, lisa, has twins, charlie and harrison, that are the same age as jake. we get together for play dates as much as we can.  it's funny to watch them interact play and only notice each other when one of them wants what the other one has.  jake is becoming more spoiled determined when he wants something so i have to watch him closely around all kids them.

playing cash register nicely

a little hostile so now he's playing solo

whenever we're all out together, people ask if they're triplets.  must be that great hair!

sneaky boy

we were looking for you!  guess where we found you?  in the bathroom with the door closed, with an old pan dragged from the kitchen, the water running and you standing on the stool mommy uses to bathe you.  say no more...see below.

matt's birthday

sunday, september 18, 2011 was matt's 34th birthday.  yes, mommy is a bit older than daddy.  yes, when i was entering high school he was still in elementary. oh well, i'll retire first and have some years to myself before he does.  some call me a cougar lucky.
anyway, we celebrated his birthday with breakfast at his favorite place, bake and broil.  thank goodness for the waitress genius who brought jake a bucket of crayons and a coloring book so we could enjoy our meal.  afterwards we did some shopping and then we went out to celebrate family and friends.  the nieces watched jake but when we got home at 10pm, he was wide awake waiting for us.  as soon as we walked in the door, he ran and jumped on matt and wouldn't let him out of his sight.  nothing like a kid loving you to top off your special day.

daddy has the high pro glow...
you'll know what that means when you turn 21.

flashback...

so since i didn't get the message from the cool girl about blogging until jake was 15 months, i decided to randomly post some snippets of jake before then.

these pics were from his first night home...2 days old. he was such a good baby.  i was so excited to get up every time he cried that i could hardly sleep anyway.  he woke every 1 1/2- 2 hours, ate and fell right back asleep.  usually matt wanted to put him to sleep on his chest but i had to remind him about big people rolling over on their kids while asleep.

who is this kid?

i just had to snap some photos of jake with his hair pulled back.  he looks like a different kid without his signature curls afro.  i think he looks more samoan like this.

oh and i'll discuss my obsession with pajamas on a later post.
