christmas 2011

if you know me, you know that i've been planning holidays with my kids before i was even a mom.  my mom was the ultimate holiday  mother who celebrated every one in style.  i've always wanted to carry on copy a lot of the same traditions my brother and i grew up with.  now if you know kids, especially toddlers, then you know not to expect anything to roll the way you planned.  let's start with christmas eve which was supposed to be movie night as a family with hot chocolate, cookies and lots of blankets.  lion king with jake and then a christmas story with the hubby after jake went to sleep.  well, jake was sick from our sj trip a few days before so he threw up all over his christmas pajamas, i burned the cookies, we ended up leaving the lion king movie in sj and matt streamed the wrong christmas story and found out that we had to order the dvd version from netflix.  i got over it but i ain't gonna lie, i was stank for minute.  let's just say i needed a pep talk from matt reminding me what christmas is really about.  there's always next year which i'm sure i'll plan obsess over also.
christmas day was mellow this year because we didn't host christmas breakfast at our house.  we woke up leisurely (yes, we know that this was probably the last year of that), had breakfast and then watched helped jake open presents.  he wasn't interested at first but when matt helped him rip the paper and he saw there was a toy under it, he got excited and rushed to the next one.  his favorite presents were the counting cookie jar, markers and writing pad from santa and the leap frog laptop from grandma jeanene.  after cooking in the afternoon, we headed over to carm's to hang with the rest of the family, including grandpa marks who came down fom sj.
christmas morning!

"hey dad, can i play with some of the blocks?"

road trip...

the week before christmas, we took a road trip up north to see my dad.  every year for the past 3 years, he's marked his birthday with a 13 mile walk from his home in fremont to his barber shop in menlo park.  we carpooled up with jason, mita and the kids, spent time with dad, visited family and hit san francisco for a day.  matt hadn't been since he was a kid so it was really nice for him.  jake did great on the 5 1/2 hour drive, mostly because he had the kids to entertain him.  i'm proud that both jake and matt walked with my dad, along with my bro and his family.  my dad is such and inspiration to my brother and i.  he has lived his life in such a way that screams nothing but success.  what a wonderful few days!
